WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: This and the following question refer to mental and emotional strengths and weaknesses - physical ones have a separate question.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?:
WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?:
The death of his mother when he was ten years old holds an extreme significance to Yuri. Not only did he lose a parent but this was also the day that Yuri first fused into a monster in order to kill the ones that had murdered his mother. It was the event that awoke the Harmonixer DNA inside of him that his father had gifted (cursed) him with. This was also responsible for him leaving his home and traveling for the next fifteen years in search of his father who had already been killed in Shanghai.
Meeting Alice not only changed Yuri but also changed his entire life around. Suddenly he had someone to protect and who protected him too. She even gave her life for him in the end and a couple of years later, Yuri tried to bring her back from the dead because he loved her that much. Not only did he have Alice but journeying with her also allowed him to make a bunch of other loyal friends who followed him to into battle.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?:
In all honesty, Yuri has always started out as the reluctant hero. When first seen he is prompted by a voice in his head that causes him pain anytime he hears it but Yuri went where ever it instructed anyway (later revealed that this was Koudelka from a previous game). He didn't have much problem traveling around fighting monsters or searching for his father in the process. Then he met Alice thanks to the voice and he grew to like her, more than like her - he came to love her. Suddenly he had someone to live and fight for so that motivated him until her death. For the time that followed he wasn't much motivated by anything, protecting a tiny town from German soldiers until he ended up being killed was basically his way of scrapping by. Until he was cursed by the Holy Mistletoe and then he went off in search of a way to remove the curse. While on this search he discovered so many things from his past were rearing their heads in an attempt to rule the world next - things outside of World War I. Old allies who were doing anything and everything to make their loved ones come back to life and Yuri felt it was his job to make things right. In the end it all comes down to the people he's loyal to and protecting a world Alice once fought to save in her last year.
WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?:
Yuri is the worst protagonist ever, rude and crude to the point where even the game labeled him Rude Hero at the start. Literally he will snark off to his enemy, sass his allies (or even kick them on occasion) and break every rule put before him if necessary. He isn't the sort of individual who goes out of his way to be exceptionally nice or kind to everyone. It is something that stayed with him throughout every aspect of the next two years, when he saved a woman from being killed but then proceeded to drop her on the floor. He has no issue staring at women that he finds physically attractive even if it typically doesn't go beyond that but it might earn him a good smack before its over. Some would definitely consider him to be a drifter, with no where to go and no home to call his own - someone who might leave at any given moment. Most of the time people might even overlook him as a potential hero they could call on when things are rough because Yuri certainly does not seem the sort to go out of his way to take an active role in stopping whatever is happening unless it directly affects his life. Basically he's a rude bastard who acts like he doesn't give a damn most of the time and has this wave of nonchalance about him.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?:
He's still a rude bastard but Yuri does actually care about stuff. Even if he bitches and complains, eager to get some miserable torture over Yuri will sacrifice himself if it is the only way to stop some big evil. Despite his attitude, he does have to live in the world and while he will essentially ignore a world war going on around him, Yuri will stand against the things normal humans can't. He protects the things that are most important to him and it doesn't involve bringing the power of demons and gods into a fight between humans. There are times when Yuri shows a touch of softness towards people, usually towards innocent kids. He doesn't treat them like the kid they are, though, more like tiny adults who he isn't excessively rude to. Truthfully he isn't as bad as he used to be in the department of manners but isn't a typical protag either.
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?:
Yuri is the essence of the phrase "cool as a cucumber" in nearly all situations. He typically goes into any situation acting as if he's going to come out as the victor and for damn good reason too. It doesn't matter if he's facing down an extremely strong opponent or something that could potentially end the world, he acts as if a good punch or a hundred will take care of it. There is some seriously messed up things in the world of Shadow Hearts and Yuri has seen it all from creepy and blood-soaked towns full of cannibals to some horrific monsters so it typically rolls right off him. The only time he's ever truly effected by something is in the loss of someone he truly cares about, mostly when it involves his dead lover, Alice.
WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:
- Alice Elliot: the girl he rescued and traveled with, who saved him and who he loved. (He won't remember her death or any details about their time together.)
- Harmonixer: he will remember that he is not a normal human. (He won't remember how to use his power.)
- Meiyuan & the Magimel brothers: every encounter with these three men ever.
- Traveling: he will know that he traveled widely over Asia, Europe and even Russia. (Won't remember why.)
- Blanca: look, he's got this intelligent pet wolf somehow and kind of understands what he's thinking.
Three of these things are important to Yuri, help make him who he is. One is because he doesn't want to forget and the last is because it's hard to forget something that traumatic and I'm an exceptionally cruel mun.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:
Yuri has memory issues on the best of days. In canon he was extremely slow to pick up on the fact that Joachim was the sibling of Keith who he traveled with several years ago. (Maybe never did because Yuri tended to come close to remembering but always visibly shook it off so it's hard to say.) He certainly never realized that the women he traveled with named Karin was his mother who eventually got sent back in time to become Anne. (Which is weird because she obviously had feelings for him throughout the game that were not motherly at all.) Sometimes he would even forget things that had been said two towns back because it didn't seem important so Yuri likely wasn't paying much attention in the first place.
Otherwise, bring on the weird and creepy and disgusting. I dare you to make something more horrifying than these.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES:
Yuri is a fighter, a strong one at that, most likely taught to him by his father as their style is the same. He uses various gauntlets that hurt like hell when he hits monsters and people in the face with them, also extremely strong and pretty durable too. There is also something else special about Yuri that he got from his father. For you see, Yuri isn't exactly human.
Harmonixer
This is the ability to fuse with the souls of the monsters he's defeated. Though it doesn't stop at just monsters but it extends to gods, demons or other mythical entities. It puts a strain on his mental state (seeing as how they are monster souls) and there are items he can equip to slow it down. Also something unique about Yuri, that's his regeneration ability which also comes from being a Harmonixer. Now this isn't a casual regeneration, this is a "got his arm completely sliced off and it fused back together in a second" kind of regeneration. However, this is only something we see once at the beginning of his story so it probably won't get used much. While in any of these forms Yuri can use elemental magic and in the case of three of his fusions, non-elemental.

Dark Seraphim - The ultimate fusion, technically Amon is stronger due to being a god... but this fusion can destroy an entire city. (coughsorryshanghaicough)
Flight
Of course there are several of Yuri's form that give him wings and also mean that he can fly. Dark Seraphim (which used to be Seraphic Radiance) did fly all the way from Shanghai to Bistritz, Romania which is almost 5,000 miles at some point.
Graveyard
Also known as Yuri's soul, which takes the shape of a graveyard (the first one truly looks like a graveyard while the second doesn't look much like one). This is a place Yuri can actually visit - sometimes at will and sometimes not. It's where the souls of the monsters he defeats rest. There are grave-markers for each element and also a giant tree with an unconscious Yuri growing out of it that signifies the Holy Mistletoe curse. Usually when he visits the Graveyard it means he's sleeping or unconscious for some reason. Also, other people's souls can reside in it after they've died like a little girl named Jeanne (obviously she won't be there as she's a playable character). Other than the gravemarkers there is a labyrinth inside his graveyard known as the Mirror Palace and this is where Amon and Albert Simon resides, though like with Jeanne, Albert won't be there as he's a playable character. Note: Yuri will not be able to pick up any human souls unless it's some sort of plot.
Seasickness & Ghosts
Yuri has a severe reaction to being in a boat because it's damn near crippling for him. In the first game he spent a lot of time lying face-down and basically emptying his stomach when they needed to get on a boat to go somewhere. However he was able to get up and move, though it was sluggish and Yuri definitely didn't have a lot of energy. When he got off he slept it off in a bed. The same was also true in the second game. Though he seems to be able to get over it if there's something happening that means he can punch a monster in the face. Ghosts are... something he dislikes a lot. Like, seriously. The first ghost we see him come across is Li Li who first cursed Alice, then eventually was turned into a creepy monster so he has a pretty good reason to not like them. However, he seems to be able to fight them and tries to get rid of them as fast as possible.
Holy Mistletoe
Thanks to a certain bastard Yuri has been cursed by the Holy Mistletoe which is an artifact used to exorcise demons. This eats away at Yuri's soul and memories meaning he's basically a ticking time bomb. He will only survive six months before the curse takes hold and leaves him a blank empty slate, his soul will have died while his body lives on and he won't remember anything. That is unless he physically dies which means his soul will be left untainted by the curse. Also, it should be noted that thanks to the Holy Mistletoe he also sends out waves that attracts monsters from miles around. Now luckily when inside specific places like inns or populated buildings, this doesn't seem to be an issue but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be that way all of the time.
Limitations
He won't be able to fuse with any of the monsters/creatures (not that it works that way anyway) or collect their soul energy to power up the ones he's already gotten. If some kind of demon, god or seriously strong monster comes around trying to destroy everything, he may try to fuse with it. The first time he tried it, he actually lost his mind and Alice had to come save him, which basically means I'd be okay with failed fusion attempts.
